Adieu To D Gr8est Player Who Ever graced a Tennis Court !!

Y am i writing this ? Though there will be a lot of better dissections of the Wimbledon final played
between Federer and Nadal i had to get yesterday's match out of my system. Y am i so involved ??
Coz Federer arguably along with Tendulkar is my gr8est hero and it pained me to sit through d 4.5 hour
duration n then realise that federer mite not win this and mite not win again( i wud loved to b proved wrong)
Y is Federer my hero ?? No i am no budding tennis player, rather i haven't landed foot on a tennis
court more than a couple of times in d last 22 yrs and so i have always been wondering what is it that draws me towards
his game ?? What is it that i have watched each of the Grand Slam finals he has featured in and
y is it that i am not a die-hard tennis fan but m certainly more than a die hard federer fan.The
search for dis answer ended when i read this article by simon barne forwarded to me by one of my
friends in which he says " wen federer plays he looks like a genius which we all aspire to be; a genius
who will make errors but wen in full flow will b a treat for d gods". And so it pained me wen i
realised that with all his genius he will finally hav to give in to d relentless nadal. With all
honesty i don really hate Nadal although i am not a big fan of his game. But i disliked him for
he dislodged Federer from d pedestal although he has shown tremendous reverence to Federer and
his game. Nadal had a lot of plus points working for him d other night : he obviously has better
concentration and has improved upon his serve than d previous editions of d championships so he
did his homework pretty well. Federer, on the other hand has not changed his game a wee bit and
that's what makes him a genius. He still continues to flow like a river on court moving with
such grace and poise that u cant believe he is not steamrolling the opposition but then the quest
to stay d no.1 has taken a toll on him and the unforced errors have gone up first serve %s have
dropped down and he aint getting any younger.Life is not gonna get any easy for him from now on with
other players breathing down his neck. He still might overhaul Samrpas' 14 titles but for the
Fed's fans his best years have been 2002-2008 when a man seemed to play tennis from a different
planet from the rest of his compatriots. For now it seems it's Fed's time to do some catching up
as Nadal has emerged as a force on courts other than d clay ones and Federer having lost 2 consecutive
finals in succession.As i write this my mind in between still wanders off to yesterday's match
and those tie-breaks which Federer miraculously clinched to stay in the match such has been the
impact. I try unsuccessfully to console myself that all good things come to an end and that Federer
is past prime but then somewhere deep within i pray for another couple of years of Federer magic
and total domination. For all those who think that tennis becomes boring if one man wins all d time
it's true only wen the man is not a certain ROGER FEDERER. with this i sign off and try to shrug off
the pain of yesterday nyt. Well played Nadal but Federer is the greatest of all time.
